WFP Supports Georgia Pacific Workers

Dawn DesBrisay, President of ILWU Local 40 and member of the Oregon WFP State Committee, speaks to Georgia Pacific Workers.

This past Saturday, some one hundred and fifty workers and community supporters rallied in front of Georgia Pacific’s Portland facility speaking out for safe jobs. Dawn DesBrisay, the president of ILWU Local 40 and a member of the leadership of the Oregon Working Families Party, was among the speakers firing up the troops on a cold morning.

“Members of the Inland Boatmen’s Union who work at warehouses for Georgia Pacific (owned by the Koch Brothers -two major funders of the tea party) have been working without a contract since March 1st. In October, after months of negotiations, Georgia Pacific gave their final offer. 100% of the bargaining unit voted on the contract, and every single one of them voted no.”
